The former minister of justice and attorney general of the federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, claims he has no remorse about what he did while in government.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The former minister disclosed this in an interview shortly after his release from prison.<\/p>\n

Recall that Malami<\/a>, his wife, Bashir Asabe, and son, Abdulaziz, are facing a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering, preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). But they have pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n

The former minister was later remanded in Kuje prison. He was rearrested on January 19 by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) shortly after his release from the prison.<\/p>\n

Malami said on January 21 that the DSS was preventing him from seeing his family and legal counsel.<\/p>\n

Malami and his son were given N200 million each in bail on February 27 by a federal high court in Abuja for alleged terrorism-related offences.<\/p>\n

He recently returned to freedom after meeting the requirements of his bail.<\/p>\n

In the interview<\/a> where he spoke in Hausa, the former minister said that, despite the experience, he believes the situation was \u201cGod\u2019s will\u201d but vowed to defend himself against the allegations.<\/p>\n

\"Malami\"<\/p>\n

Additionally, he claimed that security personnel investigated his residences and places of business without telling him, violating his rights during the investigation.<\/p>\n

He claims he was deprived of his fundamental right to be present during the searches so he could keep an eye on things and find out what was being taken or examined.<\/p>\n

Malami insisted that despite recent events, he is still unwavering and that the fight is not finished.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have spent time in EFCC custody, Kuje Prison, and with the DSS. I believe it is all God\u2019s will and I accept it, but I will defend myself against the allegations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey violated my rights by searching my houses and business premises without notifying me during the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cConstitutionally, I have the right to be present during a search to oversee the investigation of my property and to know exactly what is being looked for or taken.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no regrets regarding what I did during my time as a minister.\u201d<\/p>\n
