The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC)has announced plans to commence a nationwide revalidation of the register of voters, aimed at protecting voters and strengthening the integrity of Nigeria\u2019s electoral process.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The commission stated that the action would aim to remove “null and ineligible voters, such as deceased, non-Nigerians, underage, and multiple registrations” in accordance with legislative regulations in a public notice released on Friday via its official X Twitter.<\/p>\n

INEC confirmed that voters who registered between 2011 and 2024 are the only ones eligible for this exercise; it is not a new registration process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exercise is part of the commission\u2019s efforts to revise, update, clean and strengthen the integrity, accuracy, inclusivity, and credibility of the national register of voters ahead of future elections,\u201d the notice stated.<\/p>\n

The commission states that the revalidation process will take place at certain physical locations throughout the nation as well as online.<\/p>\n

INEC presented a staged schedule for the exercise that will span local government areas, registration areas, and polling places from April 13 to May 29, 2026.<\/p>\n

The daily exercise is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including weekends and public holidays.<\/p>\n

The commission instructed voters who wanted to participate online to go to its portal, register, and enter their voter ID number or personal information for biometric verification.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe system conducts biometric verification using a facial image, and data is checked against the central voter database to confirm voter identity,\u201d INEC<\/a> stated, adding that successful applicants would receive a notification and a validation slip.<\/p>\n

It further emphasized that voters must bring their voter identification information to INEC-designated locations for physical (in-person) revalidation. There, officials will perform biometric verification and update any relevant data.<\/p>\n

\u201cA slip or printout will be issued to the voter on completion of the process, while a message is sent to email or phone number if available,\u201d the commission added.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the commission urged all eligible voters to take advantage of the exercise, describing it as critical to ensuring credible elections and strengthening democratic processes in the country.<\/p>\n
