The Cross River government says it has recorded a new case of COVID-19 in the state.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Henry Ayuk, the state’s commissioner for health, revealed this in Calabar while informing reporters of a return of the deadly Covid-19 SARS strain in Cross River State.<\/p>\n

He also said the index case involves a 53-year-old Chinese national working with Lafarge in Akamkpa LGA, who arrived in Nigeria on March 17 and subsequently developed symptoms.<\/p>\n

The State’s Ministry of Health also revealed that it has begun profiling and tracing individuals in the state who have been in contact with a Chinese national admitted after testing positive for the COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Ayuk pledged to further curb the virus’s spread and stated that Cross River is reporting its first notable case since 2022.<\/p>\n

The commissioner urged residents to remain watchful but free to go about their daily legitimate duties, as the state is capable of fighting and preventing the spread of the epidemic.<\/p>\n

He stated that in order to prevent potential spread, the ministry under his supervision has mobilised medical professionals throughout the areas in Akamkpa Local Government Area, where the patient resided and worked.<\/p>\n
