President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio<\/span><\/span><\/a>, has called for justice and stronger national accountability following the alleged extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi<\/span><\/span>.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Addressing lawmakers on the incident, Godswill Akpabio<\/a> described the killing as a disturbing tragedy that strikes at the moral foundation of the country, stressing that it requires urgent attention from both the legislature and security agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore we proceed with business, I find it necessary to address the tragic extrajudicial killing of citizen Mele Ogidi, just 28 years old,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Godswill<\/p>\n

Ogidi, an indigene of Ujevwu in Udu Local Government Area, was reportedly shot dead on April 26, 2026, in circumstances that have sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over alleged police brutality and misuse of force.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Senate and the National Assembly, Godswill Akpabio extended condolences to the bereaved family, the Ujevwu community, and Nigerians affected by the incident.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that every Nigerian life must be protected under the law, noting that the strength of the nation depends on safeguarding citizens regardless of status or location.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe strength of our Republic lies in the assurance that every citizen\u2019s life must be protected under the law,\u201d he stated.<\/em><\/p>\n

Akpabio further stressed that national unity and stability depend on public trust in institutions, especially security agencies, which must act with restraint and accountability.<\/p>\n

Godswill Akpabio noted that a nation is built on trust\u2014trust that security forces will protect rather than harm, and that justice will be served swiftly and fairly when wrongdoing occurs.<\/p>\n

The Senate President Godswill Akpabio acknowledged reported actions by the Nigeria Police Force<\/span><\/span>, including the identification, dismissal, and prosecution of officers allegedly involved in the killing, describing it as a positive initial step.<\/p>\n
