The ADC faction led by Nafiu Bala has announced businessman Prof. Chris Uba as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n

According to DAILY POST<\/em>, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party\u2019s presidential candidate last week after defeating former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi in a nationwide primary poll.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, however, 29 contenders for governorship from each of the nation’s six geopolitical zones received flags from the Bala-led group.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the official candidate presentation in Abuja, the party’s factional National Chairman, Bala, stated that the presidential ticket was geared toward Southern Nigeria in accordance with the values of equality, justice, inclusivity, and federal character.<\/p>\n

According to Bala, three candidates first bought the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms in order to run for president.<\/p>\n

He claims that the party chose the consensus option allowed by the Electoral Act, which resulted in Uba becoming its only presidential candidate following the withdrawal of the other contenders.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cThey were Dr Bashir Sani, Prince Williams Charles and Prof. Chris Uba.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn adherence to the principle of federal character and in accordance with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as amended, which recognizes consensus as a lawful mode for the selection or nomination of candidates by political parties, the African Democratic Congress adopted consensus as the method for its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly primary election.<\/p>\n

\u201cPursuant to this provision and in the interest of party unity, two of the party\u2019s presidential aspirants voluntarily withdrew from the contest and endorsed Prof. Chief Chris Uba as the party\u2019s sole presidential candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsequently, Prof. Uba has been duly returned as the consensus candidate and duly elected to represent ADC as its presidential flagbearer in the 2027 general elections,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
