President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s son Seyi Tinubu has received a new title as he has been installed as the “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo.
The “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” translates to “the beloved child” or “the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people.
Additionally, the Alaafin bestowed the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland on Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State.

Among those at the event were, Senate Majority Leader Senator Michael Bamidele, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other lawmakers and Nigerian dignitaries.
The installation of Seyi Tinubu as “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” however, has stirred mixed reactions across social media .
A user @prinxe_B wrote “it is very wrong for the Alaafin to have installed another Okanlomo when the Ooni of Ife had already installed someone as Okanlomo of Oodua – Oodua is also Yoruba. The Alaafin needs to act carefully and respect existing traditions to avoid unnecessary conflicts within Yoruba leadership.
Another user also expressed displeasure questioning the installation.” What exactly did Senator Yari, a Hausa-Fulani man from Zamfara, do for Yoruba land that warrants a traditional title? And Seyi Tinubu as “Okanlomo of Yorubaland”… based on what contribution? Being his father’s son? This is how traditional institutions lose meaning. These titles used to represent service, sacrifice, and deep connection to the community. Now they’re just networking tools and political favors. If Senator Yari has genuinely contributed to Yoruba development in ways I’m not aware of, I’m open to being corrected”
Meanwhile, a Lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi of Abuja has referred to Seyi Tinubu’s installation as Yorubaland’s Okanlomo.

Olajengbesi praised the chieftaincy title that Oba Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, bestowed upon President Bola Tinubu’s son in a statement on Sunday.
Olajengbesi stated that Seyi Tinubu’s accomplishments as Chairman of Loatsad Promomedia, an out-of-home advertising company, were still exceptional.
