Global energy giant, Shell Plc has appointed former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SN EPCo), Elohor Aiboni, as its new Executive Vice President and Country Chair, Nigeria.
The appointment makes Aiboni the first Nigerian and first woman to hold the combined title and office in the company’s sixty plus years of operations in the country.
Aiboni will succeed Marno de Jong, the departing Executive Vice President and Country Chair of Nigeria, who is leaving Shell after a distinguished 34-year career. According to sources, the appointment takes effect from August 1, 2026.
She brings a strong blend of technical, operational, and global leadership experience gained in Brunei, Kazakhstan, and Nigeria.
He has spent over 24 years with the Shell Group, during which he has built a strong track record across onshore, shallow-water, and offshore operations.

BACKSTORY…
She became the first woman to lead a Shell exploration business in Nigeria in 2021 when she was appointed Managing Director of SNEPCo, Shell’s deepwater division in the country.
Under her leadership, the flagship Bonga deepwater facility reached its one-billionth barrel of oil production in 2023, while maintaining strong operational performance throughout the period.
In 2024, she relocated to Brunei Shell Petroleum as an Asset Director, where she was in charge of project execution, production delivery, and asset performance.
Meanwhile, Industry observers have described her return to Nigeria as a strategic move at a critical period for Shell’s business, as the company advances major investment projects including Bonga North and offshore gas developments aimed at boosting Nigeria’s energy output.
