Senior officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, and other government officials were also in attendance to greet him. The Vice-President was then briefed by Tuggar on his schedule and scheduled summit engagements.
Tuggar described Nigeria’s diplomatic achievements at the recently finished 48th Session of the Executive Council of the AU in a statement released on Friday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to him, Nigeria made notable institutional and diplomatic strides that strengthened its position as a leader in furthering Africa’s economic integration.

Speaking on peace, security, and democratic governance, Tuggar noted that the Council’s decision to give Nigeria a permanent seat on the African Central Bank Board was one of the meeting’s main highlights.
He described this a historic event that highlights Nigeria’s strategic influence on the continent’s financial system.
He claims that the ruling also adds Nigeria to the Board of the African Monetary Institute’s Technical Convergence Committee, which served as a forerunner of the African Central Bank.
These developments, he said, confirmed Nigeria’s economic importance, technical prowess, and dedication to furthering Africa’s monetary unity objective.

Regarding peace and security, Tuggar said that the Economic Community of West African States (including Nigeria) successfully elected representatives to the Peace and Security Council based on a consensus.
He claims that the result demonstrates the ECOWAS Member States’ strong unity and cohesion as well as their common dedication to stability on the continent.
Tuggar went on to say that by hosting a Ministerial High-Level Panel Discussion on Regional Partnerships for Democracy, Nigeria also showed leadership in bolstering democratic government.
Ministers, high-ranking officials, and representatives from all around Africa and the world came to the occasion.
