Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other state leaders welcomed the vice president when he arrived.

While early reports indicated more than 100 deaths, the governor had previously referred to the dead as local Muslims who were “massacred for refusing to submit to extremists preaching a strange doctrine.”

Tuesday night’s incident happened came after militants’ unsuccessful attempt to forcefully brainwash community members.
