Anambra Monday Market Opening Enforcement Continues As Government Seals Shops In Onitsha, Ogidi

The Anambra State Government has again sealed several shops belonging to traders in markets around Onitsha and nearby communities for failing to comply with the Anambra Monday market opening directive.

Naijaeyes Blog gathered that most of the affected shops were located at the Building Materials Market in Ogidi, where many traders did not open for business on Monday. However, the state government commended traders who showed up, especially those operating at the Electrical Parts Dealers Market in Obosi.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Markets, Evarist Uba, carried out a routine monitoring exercise to assess compliance with the Monday market opening policy across key commercial centers.

During the tour, Uba noted that a significant number of shops at the Electrical Parts Dealers Market, Obosi, were open for business on Monday, marking a clear shift from the prolonged weekly shutdowns that have slowed economic activities across the state.

He said, “The Obosi Electrical Parts Market is a key hub for electrical components in the Southeast, and I’m happy to see a significant level of activity.

“The government is intentionally building a state that embraces productivity. The government of Anambra State, under the leadership of Chukwuma Soludo, is highly impressed by the courage and patriotism displayed by the electrical parts dealers in Obosi, as 80 percent of the market is open.

“Their decision to open their shops is a clear testament to their faith in the government’s efforts to restore peace and their commitment to the economic prosperity of the state.”

At the Building Materials Market in Ogidi, some shops that remained under lock and key were sealed by the state government. The Special Adviser praised traders who complied and warned that the sealed shops would stay closed for two weeks.

Market leaders who spoke during the monitoring exercise expressed support for the government’s position. They stressed that improved security in the state has encouraged traders to return to business and that everyone must contribute to rebuilding the economy.

The Chairman of the Electrical Parts Dealers Association, Obosi, Chike Onunkwo, alongside Chief Jude Nwankwo, President of the International Building Materials Market, Ogidi, commended the government’s renewed commitment to safety. They added that traders must also play their part by obeying the Monday market opening directive.
