Victor Osimhen’s Goal sends Liverpool Home without three points, and Mourinho leaves Stamford Bridge with a Defeat.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Galatasaray’s forward, Victor Osimhen, helped his Turkish side triumph over English Premier League champions, Liverpool FC, during matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen put the Turkish champions ahead in the 16th minute with a clean executed penalty that went past Liverpool’s goalie, Alisson, who was substituted in the 56th minute of the match.
The premier league side controlled the rest of the match with a sixty-seven percent ball possession, sixteen shots with four hundred and sixty accurate passes, but still couldn’t break down the Turkish side’s defence.
Liverpool’s Egyptian and former African player of the year, Mohamed Salah, came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute and still couldn’t make his mark on the game to bring the away side to level.
The Nigerian forward picked up the man of the match award following his performances in the match.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s return visit to the Stamford Bridge was met with a 1-0 defeat due to an own goal by Colombian midfielder, Richard Ríos, in the 18th minute.
The match then went on to be a feisty one, with both sides picking up 5 yellow cards each, with Mourinho picking up one for himself in the 90+3 minute of the game. Joao Pedro, Chelsea’s forward, was sent off for two yellow card fouls, which automatically equals a red.
On the Champions League table, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Galatasaray occupy the playoff spots of 16th, 17th, and 18th positions, respectively, with 3 points each. Meanwhile, Mourinho’s Benfica sits in the 30th spot of the table with zero points and 2 losses.
