Ronaldo expresses, “Records are part of my journey,” following his surpassing of the Saudi goalscoring record.
Cristiano Ronaldo made history in the Saudi Pro League, clinching the record for the highest number of goals scored in a single season with his 34th and 35th strikes during Al Nassr’s last match of the campaign. Following the game, the 39-year-old Portuguese forward tweeted, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me.”
In the match against Al Ittihad, Ronaldo netted in first-half stoppage time and again with a header in the 69th minute, securing a 4-2 victory for Al Nassr at home.
The previous record of 34 goals in a season was held by Moroccan player Abderrazak Hamdallah in 2018-19. Despite Al Nassr’s second-placed finish, trailing champions Al Hilal by a considerable 14 points, Ronaldo’s achievement adds to his illustrious career.
Joining Al Nassr in December 2022, Ronaldo became part of a wave of international players drawn to the Saudi league by lucrative contracts. Additionally, he remains a key figure for Portugal, set to participate in his 11th international tournament at this year’s Euros in Germany. With 206 appearances, Ronaldo holds the record for the most caps in men’s international football and has scored an unmatched 128 goals
