Manchester United secured a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield. The referee of the match was Michael Oliver
The English Premier League clash between fierce rivals Liverpool and Manchester United ended in a 2-2 draw. Both teams went toe to toe in the second half.
United took the lead in the 52nd minute through a well-executed finish by Lisandro Martinez, who put the ball past Liverpool’s goalie, Alison.
Liverpool equalized seven minutes later through a high-roof-placed shot by Dutch winger Cody Gakpo that left Onana looking helpless with nothing to do to stop the ball from going in.
The scores were tied at 1-1 before United’s Matthijs de Ligt handled the ball in the 18-yard box as his hands were away from his body and deflected the ball’s direction. Mohammed Salah converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 and also equal Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s tally of 175 Premier League goals from the penalty spot.
Manchester United refused to back down from the fight as they went full head on searching for the equalizer and hoping to steal a point from Anfield. However, their prayers were answered as they equalized in the 80th minute through ‘wonderkid’ Amad Diallo, who put the ball calmly past Alison from a clean cross from Alejandro Garnacho to make it 2-2.
Both teams spent the next 17 minutes going full-blown attack from post to post. Chances were missed, and the biggest of them all was Harry Maguire’s miss in the last minute of the game to put Manchester United ahead and to win the game. He missed a clean chance with an unselfish pass from Joshua Zirkzee to him.
This will be the first time in Amorim’s tenure that we have seen United play some good football with a good focus on attacking and defending, unlike their woeful display at home to Newcastle.
The player of the match was the Red Devils’s ace, Amad Diallo who was sensational just as he was against Manchester City.
United move up to 13th on the Premier League table with 23 points, and Liverpool remain top of the league with 46 points, 6 points above second-place Arsenal.
