Veteran Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Stanley Amadi, has been arrested alongside military officers involved in the alleged violent coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Mr Amadi, a director and former chairperson of the Enugu State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was arrested in September 2025.
This development opens a fresh twist in the case as this is the first time Stanley Amadi’s alleged role in the alleged coup plot is being made public.
According to information obtained by reliable sources, Stanley Amadi was employed by the purported coupists who intended to kill senior government figures last year to portray a propagandist.

The commandos allegedly plotted a violent takeover in which the top government leaders were slated for elimination.
Last year, this newspaper was informed by government sources briefed on the scheme that the alleged plotters intended to assassinate Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and President Tinubu.
The intention to overthrow the Tinubu government illegally was acknowledged on Monday by the Defence Headquarters, which also stated that the accused personnel will face arraignment before military judicial panels.
Military Confirms Investigation
In its statement, the Defence Headquarters said the investigation has been completed and forwarded to “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.”
The military claims that the inquiry was “comprehensive,” carried out in accordance with established protocols, and looked at “all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.”
According to the military, the results revealed “a number of the officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government,” characterising such behaviour as “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
Although the army insisted they were being investigated for “indiscipline and breach of service regulations,” it reported in October of last year that 16 officers were being investigated for allegedly plotting a coup.
It was further gathered that more officers and civilians were later arrested in connection with the matter.
