Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali leaves Chippa United after 4 years
Nigeria’s Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has officially left his South African club, Chippa United.
This was announced by Chippa United in a statement on Thursday. According to the club, Nwabali handed in his request to leave the club despite signing a three-year contract extension in 2024.
The club said it has agreed to grant Nwabali’s wishes and wished him success in his next chapter.
The club wrote, “We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.”
Chippa United did not reveal if Nwabali has moved on to a new club or if it was for free, but speculations are that it might be for free since he had placed in his request.
The 29-year-old Super Eagles goalkeeper has not made any statement about his move from Chippa United or his next destination.
Speculations and other football reports have linked the goalkeeper to several clubs in Europe, South Africa, and even the Saudi Arabia league.
Nwabali joined the South African club in 2022 from the Nigerian-based premier league club, Katsina United. He went on to become the club’s captain in 2024 after reaching over 70 games for the club.
He also became the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper while he was with Chippa United. He had an impressive outing at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Stanley Nwabali was also Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 2025 AFCON that was held in Morocco, where he had an impressive outing, stopping penalties and four clean sheets in five games with a 91% save rate per 90 minutes.
