Veteran journalist and former presidential aide, Reuben Abati, has said that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso acted cautiously in their recent move to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), citing uncertainties within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television on Monday, Abati explained that both politicians may have foreseen possible legal and structural challenges withinhe ADC.
He noted that the referral of key issues in the party to the Federal High Court has created doubts about its stability, which likely influenced their decision to switch to what he described as a more secure political platform.

Abati also pointed out that uncertainties remain regarding their next political steps, including whether both leaders might form a joint ticket and the kind of alliance that could emerge ahead of future elections.
“Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso acted wisely out of caution. It is clear the ADC may face serious challenges, especially with the matter now before the Federal High Court,” he said.
He added that their quick move to another platform reflects strategic thinking, but emphasized that the major question now is what direction their political journey will take going forward.
Obi and Kwankwaso were officially welcomed into the NDC on Sunday by party leaders, including Seriake Dickson, alongside other top officials and supporters at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
