The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has confirmed the Ramadan crescent sightings from three different locations in Nigeria.

According to a statement released, the development was confirmed by authorities were the moon sightings were reported.

In response to the moon sightings, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, proclaimed Wednesday, February 18, 2026, to be the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH.

This was stated in a declaration that His Highness Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Waziri of Sokoto, signed. With best wishes for Allah’s blessings and guidance, the Sultan of Sokoto extends his congratulations to Muslims throughout Nigeria.

Additionally, he urged Muslims to pray for Nigeria’s peace, advancement, and growth during the month of Ramadan.

The crescent moon was seen in Saudi Arabia earlier today, marking the start of the Wednesday fast.

The moon was seen on Tuesday night, according to Inside Haramain, a newspaper of the Two Holy Mosques. This indicates that February 17 marks the end of the month of Sha’ban, which comes before Ramadan.
