Super Eagles of Nigeria in Fierce Playoffs Clash with the Panthers of Gabon for 2026 World Cup Ticket
The Super Eagles of Nigeria embark on their final journey to make an attempt to clinch the ticket for the 2026 World Cup. They play against the Panthers of Gabon in the semi-final of the CAF World Cup playoffs.
The match has been scheduled to take place on Thursday evening at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.

The winner of the semi-final clash will face the winner of the other semi-final clash between Cameroon and DR Congo.
Looking at the head-to-head matches between Nigeria and Gabon, the Super Eagles have edged the encounters with five wins, three draws, and one defeat. They have met twice in World Cup qualifiers, with the Super Eagles winning 1-0 in 1989 and 2-0 in 2005.
Super Eagles of Nigeria managed to get into the playoffs with a comfortable 4-0 win over the Republic of Benin, which was enough to place them as the second-best-place team behind group leaders, South Africa, in the qualifying series.

Meanwhile, Gabon also finished second place in the group but with a mere one point behind group leaders, Ivory Coast.
However, Super Eagles gaffer Eric Chelle has released his 24-man squad, which includes Atalanta’s hitman, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen, who has been in top form for both club and country, will look to capitalize on the game to get in more goals, which will see him move closer to becoming the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s top goalscorer, a title that is currently being held by the late Rashidi Yekini with thirty-nine goals.
The possible lineups for the clash will probably look like this:
Nigeria: Nwabali; Frederick, Ekong, Bassey, Onyemaechi; Simon, Ndidi, Iwobi, Lookman; Osimhen, Adams
Gabon: Mbaba; Onfia, M’bemba, Manga; Lemina, Kanga, Ndong, Averlant; Obiang, Bouanga, Aubameyang
