The Take-It-Back Movement has disclosed plans to hold another protest on Monday, June 22, over rising insecurity and the continued detention of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren and teachers in kidnappers custody.
The group’s Oyo State Coordinator, Dimeji Salako, announced this in a statement issued on Saturday, adding that the protest would take place at Iwo Road in Ibadan.
According to Salako, the protest forms part of a series of actions aimed at demanding the release of abducted victims and drawing attention to worsening insecurity across the country.
Speaking further, he decried that for over a month, since after the abduction of 40 schoolchildren and seven teachers in Ogbomoso, the victims had yet to regain their freedom.
He said, “It is over one month now since the abduction of 40 schoolchildren and seven teachers in Oyo State and nothing is being done by the government to ensure their release.”
Salako also alleged that insecurity situation in the state and across the nation has continued to deteriorate, with more bandits attacks recorded across the country.
The Take It Back Movement cordinator called on Nigerians to join the protest and demand the release of all kidnapped victims as well as an end to banditry and other forms of insecurity.
“As a movement, we call on Nigerians to join the action to demand the release of all kidnap victims and a total end to banditry and all forms of insecurity in Nigeria.
“It is to this end that we will be rallying Nigerians to march again until freedom is guaranteed”
Multiple Protests Erupt Across Nigeria Over Abducted Children
Multiple protests have since erupted across the country over the abduction of school children and teachers from Oriire LGA in Oyo State.
Popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), recently, led a peaceful ‘Bring Them Back’ protest in Ibadan, Oyo State, demanding urgent effort to secure the release of the victims.
Meanwhile, the protest comes barely three days after residents of Rivers State also held a demonstration calling for the release of the victims.
However the state governor has continued to reaffirm that the victims will be released and safely returned home.
BACKSTORY…
The organization stated that it previously participated in a number of protests in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, and Osun, including those on June 12 to call for increased security and greater welfare for Nigerians.
During the June 12 protest, reports revealed that demonstrators had gathered to express their grievances when security officers used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Witnesses said the resulting chaos forced many protesters to flee, while several others reportedly suffered breathing difficulties and other effects of gas exposure.
