Lagos-based clergyman, Kingsley Okonkwo, says there is no scripture prohibiting a believer of Christ from having a tattoo on their body.

The clergy, who is well-known for his sermons and relationship and marriage teachings, shared a video of himself getting a tattoo over the weekend. He received a lot of criticism from Nigerian Christians for his tattoo.

However, Kingsley Okonkwo stated in a News Central interview that there is no scientific or biblical proof that tattoos are immoral or a sign of poor character. He maintained that many religious leaders and adherents force their own beliefs, church rules, or personal opinions on others without good reason.

His response follows a series of backlash and criticism that trailed his decision to get a tattoo. Many netizens have expressed displeasure over the cleric’s decision to get a tattoo at 50 more so because of his influence as a religious leader, others have stated that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it

He said, “There is no scripture that says a child of God cannot have a tattoo. People keep shouting that tattoos are bad, yet nobody can explain why. There is no scriptural proof, no scientific proof, just assumptions.”
