Founded just three years ago by former SpaceX propulsion lead Tom Mueller, Impulse aims to establish itself as a leader in the emerging market of orbital transfer vehicles (OTVs). The company successfully completed its first mission in November 2023 with the LEO Express-1 project, where Mira performed a remarkable feat by achieving the largest-ever orbit raise of 150 kilometers in just 75 seconds during its inaugural flight. Moreover, the U.S. Department of Defense is taking notice, having awarded Impulse several grants through the Small Business Innovation Research program, aimed at enhancing the Space Force’s capabilities. Currently, Impulse employs over 140 professionals, operating from a state-of-the-art 60,000-square-foot facility in Redondo Beach, California.
