Tumblr introduces semi-private Communities in open beta, offering users a new way to connect and share content.
Tumblr launches its “Communities” feature in open beta, providing users with dedicated spaces to connect on various topics outside the main dashboard. The semi-private spaces, similar to subreddits, have moderators, rules, and privacy settings. Users can now request to create communities, with over 5,800 on the waitlist. This feature expands Tumblr’s social networking capabilities, allowing it to compete with platforms like X and Reddit, catering to users’ desires for better connections with similar interests. Communities can serve various purposes, such as bringing together fans of TV shows, artists, or book series, as well as providing spaces for schools, book clubs, and friend groups.
