Zoox to Test Self-Driving Cars in Austin and Miami.
Zoox, Amazon’s self-driving unit, plans to expand testing to Austin and Miami this summer, adding to its existing test cities of Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Seattle. The move comes amid increased regulatory scrutiny following safety investigations. Zoox will deploy its retrofitted Toyota Highlander test fleet with safety drivers initially, focusing on specific urban challenges in each city. Commercial operations and removing safety drivers are on the horizon, with San Francisco and Foster City targeted as launch cities. However, Zoox’s iconic robotaxis won’t hit Austin or Miami streets just yet. Meanwhile, GM’s Cruise and Alphabet’s Waymo are also ramping up their robotaxi testing in various cities.
