Tems has shared her perspective on marriage, stating that it should be driven by purpose and growth rather than just emotions.
In a recent interview with Angie Martinez, the Grammy-winning artist noted that marriage is not always smooth and can come with challenges, emphasizing the importance of entering it with realistic expectations.
Tems added that, given the uncertainties that come with marriage, she would prefer a God-fearing partner, as such a person is more likely to be accountable.
“My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?
“If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want. But marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldn’t be about only love, it’s about compatibility. It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person, like it evolves you. Because marriage is a whole another level, it’s supposed to bring out the hard times,” Tems stated.
