Through their youth representatives, the community specifically called out the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party, accusing both parties of failing to provide adequate political representation and infrastructural development.

Speaking to journalists over the weekend, the Youth Leader, Orolade Abiodun, who also serves as a palace chief, stated that the town has been excluded from elective positions since the creation of the state.

He warned that political actors from the affected parties may not be welcomed to seek votes in the community unless urgent action is taken to address their concerns.

“We may not allow them to campaign here if our demands are ignored,” Abiodun said.

He also appealed to key figures such as Bisi Akande, Gboyega Oyetola, and Governor Ademola Adeleke to ensure that Ikoyi is given the opportunity to present candidates in upcoming elections.

Abiodun further noted that Ikoyi has never produced a candidate for the House of Representatives, despite other towns within the same federal constituency having occupied the position multiple times.

He urged the APC to zone its ticket to the town, emphasizing the need for fairness and inclusion.

Regarding the Osun state assembly seat, he explained that since 1991, there has been a rotational agreement between Irewole Local Government Area and Isokan to ensure balanced representation every four years.

However, he expressed concern over reports that this arrangement might be disrupted, alleging that there are plans to retain current officeholders who have defected to the Accord Party.

“The current lawmaker is from Irewole, and it is now Isokan’s turn. We urge Accord stakeholders to return the ticket to Isokan in the spirit of equity,” he added.
