Tinubu Arrives Jos, Plateau After Deadly Attack, Sparks Hope, Mixed Reaction

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to visit Jos, the Plateau State capital, today, following the deadly attack that claimed 28 lives and left 22 injured.

Following the tensions that swept across the city on Wednesday, the state is gradually regaining its composure.

Amid the violence, security has been tightened with calm restored to the streets.

The President will be welcomed at Hyeipang’s Yakubu Gowon Airport. His visit is expected to focus on supporting victims and assessing the security situation.

Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, had visited him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

In a statement shared via his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President denounced the attacks in Jos and a seperate incident in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State, where wedding guests were slaughtered and kidnapped.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” Tinubu had said on Monday.

President TinubuThe President instructed security services to step up their efforts to apprehend the offenders while denouncing the attacks and praising Mutfwang for his efforts to keep the situation in Jos under control.

Additionally, he warned that some media outlets should refrain from implying that the attacks were motivated by religion because doing so could lead to an increase in violence.
