Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday said no religion endorses violence or the killing of innocent people, urging Nigerians to embrace peace, tolerance, and unity.

Speaking after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos, Tinubu stressed that the Islamic festival promotes sacrifice, obedience to Allah, love for humanity, and compassion, following the example of Prophet Ibrahim.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President warned against banditry, ethnic division, and hatred.

“Nowhere in the holy teachings does it encourage banditry or the taking of human life,” Tinubu said, adding that the story of sacrifice in Islam highlights the importance and sanctity of human life.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to use the festive season to demonstrate kindness, generosity, and love towards one another, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.

“We thank Almighty Allah for allowing us to witness another Eid-el-Kabir celebration,” he said.

He also urged citizens to respect the rule of law and remain tolerant, noting that Nigeria’s diversity should serve as a source of strength and unity rather than division.

Tinubu emphasized that national peace, stability, and development should take priority over political, ethnic, or religious interests.

In his sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, encouraged Muslims to fear Allah and uphold the values of unity, sacrifice, and generosity.

Several prominent government officials and traditional rulers joined the President for the Eid prayers, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Babatunde Fashola, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Nuhu Ribadu.
