President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a high-level meeting with key stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to assess preparations ahead of the party’s upcoming convention and congresses.
The closed-door meeting was attended by top members of the APC’s national leadership, state governors, and lawmakers from the National Assembly.
Prominent figures present included Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; House of Representatives Majority Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere; Chief Whip of the House, Usman Bello Kumo; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru.
Speaking after the meeting, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described the engagement as a brief but productive session focused on aligning the party’s preparations and ensuring cohesion among all arms of government.
According to him, the discussions centred on strengthening synergy between the national leadership, sub-national governments, the National Assembly and the party structure ahead of the convention and congresses.
“It was a brief meeting to review our preparations for the convention and congresses and to strengthen synergy between all arms of government.
“We want everyone the national, sub-national and the National Assembly to be on the same page, and I believe we achieved our objectives,” Yilwatda said.
He noted that the APC was undergoing rapid expansion with the influx of new members, governors and lawmakers, stressing the need for inclusivity as the party continues to grow.
“The party is expanding every day. We are growing beyond bounds, and we want to ensure that in the course of this growth, nobody is left behind,” he added.
Yilwatda also praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing Tinubu as a highly experienced politician whose guidance was instrumental to the party’s growth and strategic direction.
“Mr President Tinubu is a very experienced politician. His advice was remarkable, and his depth of knowledge of the political cycle continues to drive the expansion and strength of the party,” he said.
