Tinubu Leveraging Road Projects to Improve Security, Umahi Says

David Umahi has stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is utilising road construction and rehabilitation projects as part of its comprehensive strategy to combat insecurity nationwide.

Umahi made the remarks over the weekend during the official flag-off of road projects at Muna City Gate along the Maiduguri–Dikwa–Gamboru highway.

According to the minister, the strategic road projects are designed not only to improve transportation but also to strengthen military operations, reconnect communities affected by conflict, and stimulate economic activities across the North-East.

He explained that the improved road network would enhance access to border communities, facilitate the movement of security personnel and equipment, and support the government’s efforts to restore lasting peace in the region.

Umahi noted that the projects form part of the Tinubu administration’s wider security agenda, adding that the roads linking Nigeria with neighbouring Chad and Cameroon would also promote regional connectivity and economic development.

He further stated that the improved infrastructure would provide the military with better access to areas where remnants of insurgent groups continue to operate, thereby strengthening ongoing security operations.

The Federal Government has continued to prioritise major road construction and rehabilitation projects as part of its infrastructure and security agenda, particularly in conflict-affected regions of the country. In the North-East, years of insurgency have damaged critical road networks, limiting access to communities, disrupting economic activities, and hindering the movement of security personnel. The rehabilitation of strategic highways, including the Maiduguri–Dikwa–Gamboru corridor, is aimed at improving connectivity, facilitating trade with neighbouring countries such as Chad and Cameroon, supporting military logistics, and accelerating post-conflict recovery and development in the region.
