Peter Obi condemns Tinubu Govt, says 50million Nigerians have been pushed into poverty
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in 2023, has blasted President Bola Tinubu for what he has called frequent trips overseas, claiming that this indicates the President finds it difficult to remain in Nigeria.

Peter Obi criticised Tinubu in a post on X on Friday for departing on his yearly vacation to France on Thursday, just six days after returning from a 15-day trip.

He pointed out that in just two years, the President has made ten trips to France.

“From all indications, our President is not finding his home in Nigeria conducive for a long stay, and it should be concerning to us,” Obi said.

Tinubu was criticised by the previous governor of Anambra for departing the nation when Nigerians were facing extreme hunger, instability, and deteriorating living circumstances.

According to estimates by Peter Obi, 79% of Nigerians are food insecure. He also highlighted that Nigeria was recently ranked as one of the worst locations to live and the worst place to give birth in international rankings.

The former Anambra also said “It does look like Mr. President is running away from Nigeria at every slight opportunity. And one would wonder why so much of his two years in office has been spent on holidays or away from the very country he was elected to preside over.”

Peter Obi also brought up recent disasters, such as the attacks in Katsina State that killed more than fifty people, the kidnapping of more than sixty people, and the boat accident in Niger State that killed at least sixty women and children.

He maintained that before making another international trip, the president ought to have paid a visit to the relatives of the victims.

“No holiday is more important than the Nigerian lives you swore to protect,” Obi said.

“At a time when Nigerians need leadership, empathy, and presence, a President should not choose foreign holidays.”
