Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has warned that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is re-elected for a second term given the current state of the country, Nigeria may experience severe instability.

In a media chat, Baba-Ahmed stated that the nation is going through one of its most difficult times, adding instances of growing social division, pervasive poverty, and increased insecurity.

He further claimed that many Nigerians, particularly young people, are losing hope as a result of few prospects and a lack of guidance for the future. And that the current leadership seems disengaged from the everyday hardships of citizens.

He claims that these circumstances have increased mistrust in society, with tensions continuing to rise across many regions and groups growing more divided.

Baba-Ahmed emphasised that in order to stop what he called a deteriorating national collapse, immediate political reform will be required in 2027.

He said: “We’ve never been in a war situation more than we are now. We have a government that is too removed from the people.

“They don’t really understand the state in which Nigerians live. We are living with the highest level of insecurity that we have ever lived with.

‘Poverty levels are unprecedented, young people have no hope. There is nothing to inspire them to be good citizens and to grow up in a country that does not care for them to be productive adults. We are fighting each other, we are hating each other.”

He also said, “The country is more divided now than it has ever been. And it’s very important that we put an end to this drift in 2027. As I said before, another term for the same administration may just put an end to this country.”

BACKSTORY…

This is not the first of its kind. Earlier in February, the PRP chieftain  stated that Tinubu could become Nigeria’s worst president if re-elected in 2027.

He noted that since stepping down from his role as the president’s adviser, he has not observed any improvement in Tinubu’s performance. Instead, he said the situation in the country appears to have worsened.

“I see a president who is amassing all the politicians around him with the hope that those politicians are going to deliver him in the second term.

“That is poor thinking. It’s not strategic and it’s not Tinubu that we used to hear about.

Additionally, he said, “I’m sorry to say that I think President Tinubu will make the worst president if he returns to power in 2027.”
