Tragic Loss: Onyeka Onwenu, 72, Dies After Lagos Show
Legendary Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at 72. Onwenu reportedly died on the night of July 30 at Reddington Hospital in Lagos. According to a source close to the family, Onwenu was attending a birthday party and had just performed on stage before collapsing. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The cause of death has not been confirmed.
Born on May 31, 1952, Onyeka Onwenu’s career spanned over four decades, during which she became known for her music, acting, journalism, and political involvement. She released her first album, “In The Morning Light,” in 1984 and was known for hits like “One Love,” “Iyogogo,” and “Ekwe.”
