President of the United States has directed American forces to extend a ceasefire  truce with Iran and continue a naval blockade while awaiting a unified proposal from Tehran’s leadership.

In a statement shared via his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the leadership of Iran is “seriously fractured,” making it difficult for its leaders to present a coherent negotiating position.

He wrote, “Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so, and at the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our attack on Iran until such time as its leaders and representatives can present a unified proposal.”

The move coincides with the escalation of US-Iranian tensions over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial chokepoint for international oil supplies, earlier this month.

With Sharif and Munir serving as go-betweens to stop further escalation, Pakistan has been a crucial mediator in backchannel diplomacy between Washington and Tehran.

Meanwhile, neither the deadline for Iran’s unified plan submission nor the anticipated conclusion of the talks have been specified.
