The University of Abuja‘s(UniAbuja) Senate has authorised the expulsion of 28 students for charges such as drug possession, cult-related activities, test fraud, and threats of death.

After reviewing a report from the Student Disciplinary Committee, the judgement was made at the institution’s 191st Regular Senate Meeting.

This information was revealed in a statement released on Sunday, February 22, 2026 by Dr. Habib Yakoob, acting director of information and university relations.

“The affected students were found culpable of serious misconduct, including assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft, falsification of ‘O’ Level results uploaded on the university portal for admission, as well as possession and use of hard drugs,” the statement read.

It stated that certificates previously granted to 15 former students who disregarded the disciplinary committee’s repeated invitations were revoked with Senate approval.

Additionally, 33 students of UniAbuja were warned for offences like fighting, conspiracy, and hostel racketeering, while nine students were cleared after investigations.

Speaking about the development, Senate Chairman and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi issued a warning: The university will not lower its standards or tolerate actions that jeopardise campus safety and academic integrity.

“The academic integrity of the university is sacrosanct, and we are determined that anyone who violates it will be appropriately sanctioned.

“Our goal is not only to enforce discipline but also to guide our students towards responsible citizenship and academic excellence,” he said.

Fawehinmi added that the institution remains committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for students and staff.

“We will continue to uphold discipline and enforce our rules and regulations without compromise. At the same time, we are strengthening student engagement, counselling, and orientation programmes to promote responsible conduct and prevent future infractions,” he said.

In light of mounting worries about cultism, test fraud, and other illegal activity within higher institutions nationwide, the move highlights the UniAbuja’s management’s renewed focus on indiscipline.
