Reverend Edwin Achi, the kidnapped priest in charge of the Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area, has passed away while being held captive.
On October 28, 2025, bandits abducted the priest and his spouse from their home in Nissi Village, close to the Kaduna Refinery, and transported them to an unidentified location.

The kidnappers called the family a few days after the kidnapping and demanded N600 million in ransom before releasing the victims.
However, the cleric has passed away, according to the Anglican Communion Diocese of Kaduna. In a statement, it was said that Reverend Achi’s passing was a devastating loss for the entire Diocese, the clergy, the Church family, and everyone who benefited from his devoted ministry.

“The Venerable Edwin, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October, 2025, has been confirmed dead,” the Diocese wrote about the late cleric on its Facebook page.
“His transition is a painful loss to the entire Diocese, the clergy, the Church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God.

“We continue to pray for the release of his wife and daughter who are still in the hands of kidnappers”, the statement read.
The church also prayed for the release of the wife of the late priest who is still in the custody of the kidnappers.
