The US Embassy in Nigeria has issued a stringent directive to all visa applicants, mandating the disclosure of all social media usernames and handles used over the past five years as part of the visa application process.

The order, which was posted on the US Embassy’s official X account on Monday, coincides with the US Department of State’s recent reaffirmation of its intention to strengthen national security by implementing more stringent screening procedures.

On the DS-160 visa application form, Nigerian visa applicants must include a detailed description of their social media profiles, according to the U.S. Mission.

It cautioned that failing to provide the information would result in visa rejections and possible disqualification for further U.S. visas.
