Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) ordered the arrest of Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, a Nigerian social media influencer and personality, after he publicly complained about alleged unauthorised withdrawals from his mother’s bank account.
Barrister Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan’s lawyer, confirmed the arrest to news men on Friday, stating that his client was taken into custody by Nigeria Police Force officers in Area 3, Abuja.travel manuals.
VeryDarkMan complained about frequent debits from his mother’s account in the pretence of loan repayments, which prompted GTBank to order the arrest.
Adeyanju said, “My client, VeryDarkMan, was arrested today in Abuja by the Nigerian police. His only offence was speaking out about suspicious and repeated debits from his mother’s GTBank account for loans she never took.”
VeryDarkMan previously voiced his concern on social media regarding several withdrawals from his mother’s account.
He disclosed in a video that has now gone viral that they went to an Abuja GTBank branch to get a copy of her bank statement and to demand an explanation.
“Myself and my mom just arrived at GTBank to get an explanation for the constant debit from her account by GTBank in the name of loan repayments that she never took. In this year alone, see the amount of times she has been debited with different amounts,”
“We have requested her bank statements so we know when the debiting started. So far, in this year alone, there have been more than seven debits on loan repayments. GTBank staff are cooperating—hopefully, we’ll know why they keep doing this” he said.
Following this, verydarkman’s brother has condemned the arrest of the activist stating that his only crime was complain over debits on his mother’s account for a loan she did not take.
This development comes after VDM slammed senate president Akpabio over his comments about Nigerians at Pope Francis’s burial.
