Deji Adeyanju, an activist lawyer, has questioned if the BBNaija reality show’s organisers actually give the winners their prize money.
Many previous reality show winners, according to the human rights campaigner, ended up in worse financial situations following the show.
“Do they really give BBNaija winners the prize money? The reason I am asking is because many of them end up looking extremely broke thereafter,” he wrote via his X handle on Monday.
Adeyanju’s post comes only 24 hours after Imisi was declared the winner of the 10th edition of the BBNaija reality show and walked away with a grand prize of N150 million on Sunday.
His post has since stirred mixed reactions and social media debate, with many BBNaija fans challenging him to mention names of former winners who became poorer after the show, but he did not respond.
Recall that Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija’s seventh season in 2022, has frequently called out the hosts for not paying out prizes.
Since its debut in 2006, Big Brother Naija has produced a string of winners who have become public figures in entertainment and business:

While some previous winners have maintained their relevance and stability, others have seemingly struggled to sustain their fame or wealth, fueling Adeyanju’s concerns.
