Amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faction loyal FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has fixed its presidential primary on May 23, 2026.
The decision was made during the party’s 106th National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.
The PDP also agreed a thorough schedule for primaries for other elective positions, according to a statement released at the conclusion of the meeting and read by Jungudo Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of the caretaker committee.

The timetable is in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s election(INEC) timetable.
The approved timeline includes:
Submission of membership register to INEC – April 10, 2026
State House of Assembly primaries – May 2, 2026
National Assembly primaries – May 9, 2026
Governorship primaries – May 16, 2026
Presidential primaries – May 23, 2026

The timeline was created in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2026, which mandates that the electoral commission publish a notice of election at least 300 days prior to the polls, according to NEC.
The communiqué stated: “NEC received and noted the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections as issued by INEC pursuant to the provision of the Electoral Act 2026.”

The PDP faction called on all of its organs and stakeholders around the country to start making plans and closely follow the deadlines that have been set.

In accordance with the party’s constitution, a new National Working Committee (NWC) will be chosen at the party’s national convention, which is set for March 29 and 30. The committee also reiterated these plans.
Members praised Abdulrahman Mohammed’s caretaker committee for keeping the party stable throughout the changeover.
Additionally, NEC noted that state congresses planned for the weekend would adhere to the party’s rules and expressed pleasure with the way ward and local government congresses were conducted.

The committee welcomed recent judgments of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, which affirmed the leadership of the caretaker committee.
The NEC claims that the decision has improved the stability and constitutional procedures of the party.
Additionally, the committee advised party leaders engaged in disagreements to seek peace and refrain from pursuing additional legal action, especially appeals to Nigeria’s Supreme Court.
