Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced Monday that all unauthorised residents of the capital city would be expelled.
Wike declared that he would not tolerate criminal activity in the FCT under any pretence. He pointed out that in the FCT, poverty shouldn’t be a pretext for crime and kidnapping.

Wike gave assurances that the FCT Administration is committed to securing the city during his monthly ministerial press briefing.
He pointed out that the government has never been able to fully address poverty anywhere in the globe.

Wike said: “Those claiming to be the owners of this land, why are you not developing the land? We are going to make sure that all illegal occupants are thrown out. It’s unfortunate because security is key and paramount.
“Any government that can’t provide security for its citizens shouldn’t be in government.
“We have to be careful about this poverty thing. All over the world, China, there are areas where you can see poverty, but that does not give you room to make people uncomfortable, kidnap them. No, we will not allow that, so let nobody use this poverty thing as an excuse.

“We have this attitude that everything must be done by the government. I will not allow criminality under any guise.”
