Gomo II, also known as Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd.), the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, passed away.
The Emir passed away in London on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the age of 81, following a brief illness, according to his family.

Born on October 24, 1943, the late Emir graduated from the Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, United Kingdom, on December 10, 1962, and joined the Nigerian Army. The date of his commission was July 25, 1963.
Sani Sami gave his all during his tenure, earning promotions and holding a number of high-profile positions, such as Commander Brigade of Guards during the government of Murtala Mohammed and, in December 1983, military governor of Bauchi State.

Following his army retirement, Sani Sami became the Emir of Zuru and returned to his hometown.
He was considered a simple, disciplined, and industrious person who was committed to the emirate’s customs and cultural legacy.

The Zuru Emirate Council will announce the funeral plans later.
