Following a recent Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion along the Bagega–Anka road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, authorities confirmed that about ten people died and seven others sustained injuries.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday at about 6:15 p.m. when a commercial Volkswagen Golf 3 wagon carrying passengers from Bagega to Anka ran over an explosive device allegedly planted by local bandits.
Meanwhile, the state police command spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, told reporters on Wednesday that the explosion recorded one death and seven injuries.
Detailing the devastating human cost of the crisis, he highlighted that the pervasive fear of insurgent strikes has driven thousands of children entirely out of classrooms.
Similarly, countless families continue to endure the profound psychological trauma of kidnappings and the agonizing, prolonged captivity of their loved ones.
Zagazola quoted a police source “Following the deployment of security personnel to the affected area, an extensive assessment was carried out, leading to the recovery of nine additional bodies from the scene of the explosion.”
Meanwhile, police authorities took the recovered bodies to a hospital for autopsy and other necessary procedures before releasing them to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
They also reinforced security along the Anka–Bagega corridor to prevent a repeat of the incident and reassure road users.
In addition, they stated that visibility patrols had been intensified along the route in an effort to strengthen security and deter criminal activity.
