During Jonathan’s vice-presidency, Hayatu-Deen headed the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and served on the National Council on Privatisation. He later also served on the Presidential Advisory Committee when Jonathan became acting president and later president.

It also noted that Deen recently received his ADC presidential candidacy form from the national secretariat of the party and formally notified Jonathan of his intention to run for president in 2027.

Hayatu-Deen further described the Jonathan as a respected leader on the continent and commended his impact on democratic government and election integrity across Africa during the visit.

Additionally, the statement noted that Deen intends to leverage his experience to address insecurity, reduce the rising cost of living and create employment opportunities for Nigerians if elected president.

BACKSTORY…

Meanwhile, this visit comes barely 48 hours after Jonathan revealed that he will consult widely before deciding whether to join the 2027 presidential race.

Goodluck Jonathan made the statement on Thursday in Abuja after a group of supporters visited his office to urge him to contest in the next general election.

Speaking to the supporters, the former president stressed the importance of patriotism, peace, and credible elections, noting that only patriotic citizens can truly build a nation.

He encouraged young Nigerians to remain actively involved in the electoral process, especially by exercising their right to vote and advocating for peaceful elections across the country.
