Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has denied reports that she withdrew from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of next year’s general elections.
In a lengthy post shared on her verified X handle, Aisha Yesufu clarified that she remained in the race until the end and had no intention of challenging a process she believed was never genuinely allowed to take place.
She explained that her decision to join politics was driven by a strong desire to contribute to the kind of transformation she hopes to see in the country, stressing that meaningful change requires active participation rather than criticism from the sidelines.
“As the dust settles on the NDC primaries, I want to make it clear: I did not quit, and I did not withdraw from the race,” she stated.

Aisha Yesufu noted that she entered the political process fully aware of the challenges facing the nation’s political system, particularly the difficulty values-driven candidates face in gaining recognition within a structure she described as resistant to merit-based politics.
She maintained that despite the challenges, she chose not to compromise her principles, insisting that she carried her advocacy and values into politics rather than abandoning them.
According to her, she is proud of the campaign her team ran, highlighting their strong grassroots presence and credibility, which she said could not be artificially created behind closed doors.
