2027: Governor Eno Meets Akpabio Over Re-Election Plans

Ahead of the 2027 governorship election, Akwa Ibom State Governor Eno met with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and reaffirmed his commitment to cooperation and political unity in the state

Governor Eno stated during the consultation visit that the delegation was there to thank Senator Akpabio for his unwavering dedication to the advancement and interests of Akwa Ibom State.

He also added that the purpose of the visit was to formally request the Senate President’s endorsement and assistance in advance of the 2027 elections.

He said, “We came to appreciate you and thank you for accepting us and for protecting the interests of Akwa Ibom State. We thought it wise to come home and consult you officially as we undertake this journey.”

Governor Eno further stressed the need for unity among political leaders, saying cooperation and peace remain essential for the state’s continued development. Ahead of the 2027 elections, he also promised Akwa Ibom State’s support for Senator Akpabio and President Bola Tinubu.

In response, Senator Godswill Akpabio described Governor Eno as “humility personified” and thanked him and his delegation for the consultative visit.

Ahead of the 2027 governorship election, he pledged his support for Governor Eno and praised him for promoting harmony and peace in the state despite party differences.

Senator Akpabio also urged stakeholders to build broad support for President Bola Tinubu in Akwa Ibom State, noting that continued cooperation with the federal government would greatly benefit the state.

This comes days after Akpabio has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is effectively “dead,” following a wave of defections involving key political figures.

The Senate President Akpabio made the comment during Tuesday’s plenary while reading a letter announcing the defection of Abia South senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, who reportedly moved from the ADC to the Labour Party.

He further urged that records of defections be properly documented across all political parties to maintain clarity.
