Atiku Abubakar has described slammed President Bola Ahmed over worsening security crisis, describing Tinubu’s failure to tackle insecurity as a national tragedy.

Atiku made the remark in a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, following the killing of House of Representatives member Abba Adamu by bandits.

Recall that Authorities declared Adamu dead on Tuesday after bandits abducted him along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on May 3, 2026, and held him captive for nine days.

In response, Atiku stated that Adamu’s passing is yet another indication of the Tinubu administration’s deteriorating security situation.

He claimed that the horrific killing of a former federal senator at the hands of criminals is not just a personal tragedy but also a scathing indictment of a government that has failed to uphold its most important constitutional obligation, which is to safeguard people and property.

He said, “Let us be brutally honest: Nigeria is under siege, and the Tinubu administration appears either overwhelmed, indifferent, or dangerously incompetent in the face of this national emergency.

“When a former member of the National Assembly can be abducted on one of the country’s most strategic highways and die in captivity, what hope remains for the ordinary Nigerian who lacks visibility, influence, or protection?

“This is no longer about isolated incidents. It is now a horrifying pattern. Gunmen are kidnapping Nigerians from highways, farms, communities, and even their homes, while the government keeps issuing hollow statements and recycled assurances that bear no resemblance to people’s lived reality.”

BACKSTORY…

Abba Anas, a prominent ADC chieftain was kidnapped last Wednesday along the Kaduna-Abuja highway while travelling from Kano to Abuja for a political meeting.

Reports said the abductors led him and others into the bush near Jere and initially demanded a N200 million ransom.

From 2007 to 2011, Mr. Anas, a prominent chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), represented the Guri, Kiri-Kasamma, and Birniwa federal constituencies.

The incident occurred while he was travelling from Kano to Abuja for a political meeting.

Kidnappers abducted Mr. Anas alongside his associate, Ali Tukur, and reportedly led them into the bush near Jere before demanding an initial ransom of N200 million.

Mr Anas suffered from asthma and hypertension.

However, the gunmen held him for several days without access to his essential medication, which residents said worsened his condition and eventually led to his death.
