A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Sani, has disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has purchased a presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 general election.

Sani revealed this move during an appearance on Trust TV on Tuesday.

He also stated that Jonathan’s actions signals a strong interest in returning to partisan politics ahead of the next general election.

Sani said, “In politics, what is important is action. If you are interested, there are processes you have to follow, one of which is the procurement of nomination forms. He has done that.”

When asked if Jonathan had truly purchased the form, Sani replied: “Yes and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly.”

Additionally, Sani expressed optimism that the legal challenge to Jonathan’s eligibility to run for president again would be unsuccessful.

He maintained that only the Supreme Court could overturn an already delivered judgment.

He added that the pending case before Justice Peter Lifu, which is expected to come up on May 26, would likely be dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.

Furthermore, the PDP chieftain insisted that many Nigerians still harbour nostalgia for the former president’s government, rejecting claims that Jonathan’s followers were only using his name for political significance.

However, Jonathan reportedly failed to appear on Monday to submit his nomination form ahead of the planned screening.
