The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has completed the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket. According to reports, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, was the only aspirant to buy the forms.

Party officials said Obi was the only person who collected the presidential forms before the deadline closed on Sunday, May 17, 2026. This put him at the forefront of the party’s selection process.

Prior to the 2027 general elections, Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, just joined the NDC after quitting the African Democratic Congress.

This move has continued to garner notice in Nigeria’s changing political environment.

Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the National Secretary of the NDC, confirmed in a statement that although the party has closed the presidential form window, it has consequently extended the deadline for other elective positions—such as governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly tickets—to midnight on May 24, 2026.

In addition, the party will screen all candidates from May 19 through May 26, 2026. Ultimately, successful candidates will move on to the nomination round, which the party has scheduled for May 20–26.”

Meanwhile, the NDC has specified stringent standards for candidates, requiring them to submit six copies of their curriculum vitae, voter IDs, birth certificates, sworn age declarations or birth records, passport photos, and party membership documents.

It added that the screening exercise will assess competence, character, grassroots appeal, and adherence to zoning and local political considerations, while also reflecting the party’s affirmative action policy for women, youths, and persons with disabilities.

BACKSTORY…
Obi x Kwankwaso

Following this, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is hopeful of securing the party’s vice-presidential ticket, a move that could eventually position Kano State to produce a president.

He said, “By God’s grace, the next election will be unlike anything that has ever happened in our state and country, especially if I secure the ticket and my name is on the ballot.”
