Popular virtual vigil Hallelujah challenge hosted by gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey is fast becoming one of the most streamed programmes across social media.
What began as a straightforward virtual worship session in the living room of Pastor Nathaniel Bassey has developed into an international religious movement.
Thousands of believers from all around the world gather for the nightly praise session, also known as the #HallelujahChallenge, to worship, pray, and share accounts of their encounters with God.

Recently, it was reported that figures from recent streams indicate that the combined viewership exceeded 1.2 million during the midnight session on Wednesday.
Here are five things to know about the globally followed program:
1. It started from Nathaniel Bassey’s sitting room
On June 1, 2017, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey quietly started the Hallelujah Challenge by praising God live on Instagram from his home room.
Years later, that simple act has become a strong wave of worship across nations, drawing tens of thousands of people who join online each night to praise and pray.

2. Inspired by the #TonguesChallenge
Before hallelujah challenge was birthed, Pastor Nathaniel hosted the #TonguesChallenge, which urged Christians to spend time praying in tongues every day, prior to the Hallelujah Challenge.
He was motivated to start another prayer movement, this time centred on praise, fully focused on honouring God and to encourage supernatural experiences, following the massive turnout from the first one.
3. Testimonies from across the world
The Challenge has gained recognition as a centre for miracles over the years. Testimonies of healing, financial successes, marriages reunited, and long-awaited prayers answered have been given by participants.

The Challenge’s reputation as “a mountain of high praises, fervent prayer, heartfelt worship, deliverance, breakthroughs, miracles, and signs” is strengthened by the frequent occurrence of stories of supernatural interventions and miracles.
4. More than just midnight praise
Although officially themed a virtual praise vigil beginning at 11:59 p.m., the hallelujah challenge often runs for hours.
Many attendees describe the atmosphere as electrifying and profoundly spiritual. It is a combination of passionate worship, prayers, and times of introspection.

5. Dress like your miracle night
The occasion where participants are instructed to dress in a way to represent a miracle or testimony they have been hoping for is one of the most anticipated nights of the virtual praise vigil.
Although widely criticised, participants embody different outfits in faith and anticipation of their answers.
