Speed Darlington, fondly called Akpi by fans, has found himself in legal trouble again. His lawyer, Stan Alieke of Law Capitol, released a statement shedding light on the rapper’s rearrest on Wednesday, November 27.
According to Alieke, the police acted on orders from the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, citing allegations of bail jumping.
Speed Darlington, who recently returned from the US, was picked up shortly after performing in Owerri.
Alieke clarified that the arrest was tied to his ongoing legal battle after being accused of defaming fellow artist Burna Boy in his song ‘Baby Oil’.

The controversy began weeks earlier when Burna Boy reported Darlington to the police for alleged defamation.
Darlington was initially arrested in Lagos, detained for five days, and then transferred to Abuja. He was granted administrative bail on October 8 due to health concerns.
In his statement, Alieke explained that Speed Darlington had no intention of skipping bail. The rapper had reportedly coordinated with his legal team and the police, planning to return to Abuja after his performance.

The lawyer further emphasized that Akpi’s controversial persona is all part of his entertainment style. “He’s a joy giver,” Alieke noted, adding that the viral videos and lyrics are meant for laughs, not defamation.
The lawyer also addressed past comments made by Darlington about Burna Boy’s mother, attributing them to a slip of the tongue and stressing the rapper’s respect for family values.
